Linda Michael

As Program Director for one of the state's 9 Regional Education Service since 1996, Linda is a witness to both the progress we are making in professional development in education and the urgent need to do more. Teachers and administrators in Indiana are responding to the increased pressure to produce performance-based education for Indiana's children, but reacting is not leading. If we are to achieve the excellence we envision, new leaders must also be nurtured. Linda’s recent work has been to promote practical learning for principals in northeast Indiana. Building on the successful preparation academies she developed for teachers seeking National Board Certification and to enter school leadership as principals, she considers coaching as the “most important, practical, useful” growth service educators can provide to advance the profession.

In her 18-year career as a teacher (teaching secondary French, English and Social Studies) she became interested in staff development as a district-level Gifted and Talented program coordinator, as well as serving as a district-level grant writer funding gifted programming, School-to-Work programs, Goals 2000 programs, and others.

She is a graduate of National Staff Development Council's Academy II for professional developers. Since then, she has attended or facilitated hundreds of professional development events. She says the experiences and training she has received as part of NSDC’s Coaching for Results program are the culmination of a decade of growth!

On the personal side, she is the mother of two and the proud grandmother of four lively boys. She also has been known to dote on three fuzzy white dogs who try not to bark during coaching client calls.
